Wedding Cake Tips

The setting in which your wedding cakes will be placed is also worth careful thought and planning. Contact your venue and ask to be shown the table your cake will be placed on. Make sure it is in a prominent position as, along with your flowers, it will be the work of art at your wedding day.
Consider dressing the table. If your wedding has a colour scheme, this is the perfect way to tie it in. A coloured cloth with overlaid white tulle is a great stage for the cake and will highlight your theme. Ask the venue staff if they have a stand for the cake and if so, view and book it.
If your venue doesn’t have a wedding cake stand, you can hire one elsewhere. It will make a significant difference to the height, prominence and overall presentation of the finished cake.
Cutting and serving
Ask about the knife for the cutting ceremony. As this event will probably feature in your photographs, the last thing you want is a beat-up, grubby old kitchen knife taking centre stage. If your venue does not have the knife style or look you want, you can hire one.
Allow enough time between the cake-cutting ceremony and the serving of the cake. It can take considerable time to cut a large cake and having it cut beautifully is all-important.
Don’t put too much pressure on your venue to do this. Ask to see the plates the cake will be served on once cut, as well as the serving platter the cut cake will come out on, if there is to be one.
If there are flowers on your cake, have them placed down the sides of the serving platter.
A little planning and thought to this process will ensure you – and your guests – make the most of the beautiful cake you have chosen.
